Vice President of Construction Operations – Responsibilities

Our client, a well-established federal government contractor, is seeking a Vice President of Operations to join their leadership team (<90 company-wide). They have built a strong reputation delivering federal construction projects across the United States and internationally, with a primary focus on the Washington, DC region and Mid Atlantic. Their work includes renovations, facility upgrades, MEP improvements, security upgrades, historical restorations, new construction, and specialized projects. Following the departure of a long-time Vice President, the company is looking for its next senior leader. This is a rare opportunity to join an established, privately held business in a hands-on leadership role with the ability to make a meaningful impact on project execution, team development, and overall business performance. Initially, the focus will be on learning the company, understanding the project portfolio, and ensuring successful project delivery. The role will continue to involve direct project management and estimating while gradually expanding into broader operational responsibilities, including leading project managers, planning resources, and improving operational performance. The position offers the opportunity to grow into a broader leadership role as the company evolves, making it well-suited for an experienced construction operations leader or a Senior Project Manager ready to take the next step into operational leadership.

•    Drive successful field execution across a diverse portfolio of federal construction projects
•    Oversee project delivery and stepping in as the direct PM when needed
•    Ensure projects meet schedule, budget, cost, quality, safety, and client expectations
•    Oversee project teams, coordinate resources, and resolve challenges across multiple projects

•    Monitor project performance, costs, and margins to identify risks and improve execution
•    Partner with leadership on operational planning, resource allocation, and business performance
•    Support client relationships, business development, and contract negotiations
•    Strengthen processes and team capabilities to support larger projects and continued growth
•    Work across the business, gradually assuming broader responsibility for company operations
•    Keep the CEO informed of operational performance, key issues, and recommended actions

Vice President of Construction Operations – Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree required
•    10+ years of construction industry experience required
•    3+ years of federal government contracting experience required
•    Strong construction project management and estimating knowledge
